The main reason I really wanted to make a quick post, was because I've discovered my latest "favorite" song: "Somebody That I Used To Know" by Gotye. Go ahead and criticize, but I honestly love it.
Even though it's only been 'out' since February, I guess it's a pretty popular song. But, being out in Idaho, where I don't listen to the radio, and everyone's favorite band is 'MoTab' I hadn't heard it until two days ago. My Father and I like to watch American Idol together, and on Tuesday two of the contestants (Phillip and Elise) sang a duet together, and chose this song. It was utterly atrocious. I'd never even heard the original version before, so I had nothing to compare it to, but I thought they'd butchered it. After their "performance" Chandler and Moira kept going on about how awesome the primary version was. So I looked it up.
Blown away; entirely. His voice, the video, the lyrics; everything. I loved it. Everything down to the facial expressions were perfect.
My absolute favorite part? 03:02 - That brief second were his mouth twitches into a pathetic smile, and the way his eyebrows move.
The emotion in this is so relate-able, and just so damn accurate that it's slightly overwhelming. From the exaggerated intake and exhale of breath when Kimbra starts singing, to the tender look he gives her at the close when she's been stripped of her paint... I love each and every sideways glance and aversion of eyes.
The music is great as well. I'm fond of the rhythm, love the tempo, and the fact that it's a little different. I've heard a few Gotye songs before, and was pleased to find myself instantly enamored. Unfortunately, I can be a little picky, when finding new music. And if the beat and sound don't catch my interest within the few 10 seconds or so, (unless the artist has an awesome voice) I don't give the rest of the song a chance. The chorus of this song, though, is what truly made me fall in love.
Powerful, I guess. It's powerful lyrically, (he just describes everything so well) and visually. There's a connection between me and this song, and I (again) love it.
Favorite phrases: "And it's an ache I still remember."
"And I don't even need your love."
As a side note, I also adore "Heart's a Mess" by Gotye. Moreso the song than the song&video together, but nonetheless another great piece by this Aussie.
You forgot your wallet at my apartment!
ReplyDeleteYou know, this would be a lot easier if you oprned up your ask on tumblr -_- then I could just message you that way. I have food coloring! So don't worry about that. Although... I'm not sure I have blue! D: It might be red and green? Not sure. But I have your wallet on me right now while I'm on campus. I have my business class dfrom 1:15-2:45 (although I'm pretty sure that on the first day it won't go all the way to 2:45) maybe I can drop it off after class and we can make the pops? I know you have cognition probably but I have a meeting at 6:30 as well. Maybe we should just plan on later later. Well even if you're not home, I'll drop off your wallet. I've been kinda really worried that you'd need it today!
ReplyDeleteOkay so I just left it on your bed. Hope you see it.
